Mindful Slow Stitch - DIY Sewing Kit and Video Tutorial
Welcome to our mindful slow stitch wall hanging video tutorial, where Rebekah will guide you through creating a simple yet stunning composition using fabric scraps and offcuts. This project is ideal for both beginners and experienced sewers, offering a calming and creative experience.
In this session, you'll learn the historic technique of the running stitch to attach your fabric pieces to a base cloth. Rebekah will share her personal insights, influences, and showcase examples of her Textile Art, helping you connect with the rich tradition behind this method.
To make it even easier to follow along, we’ve created special kits that include everything you need to start your project:
Work with a selected range of plant dyed scraps and offcuts from Rebekah’s larger projects and watch as she shows you how to create an inuitive composition, held together with running stitch.
Each kit contains:
100% linen base cloth: Plant-dyed in a neutral beige, perfect as a foundation for your design.
At least 10 fabric scraps: A mix of plant-dyed silks, linens, and cottons in assorted shapes and sizes to inspire creativity.
6 colours of DMC Perle Cotton Size 8: Approx 10 metres each of high-quality threads in coordinated colours.
Sashiko needle: Ideal for precise and smooth stitching and great for other quilting projects.
20 cm brass tube: To elegantly hang your finished creation.
PDF download and video tutorial link: Emailed separately to guide you step-by-step through the project.
Whether you’re unable to attend an in-person workshop or prefer working from the comfort of your home, these kits are the perfect complement to the tutorial.
By the end of the session, you’ll not only have a beautiful handmade wall hanging but also a deeper appreciation for the meditative art of slow stitching and ideas for how to incorporate these techniques into your own practice.
If you would like to purchase the tutorial without the kit you can do so here
Please Note:
These kits are limited due to the unique nature of the hand-dyed scraps used. They will only be available as and when there is enough plant-dyed scrap material to create a full kit. It's not possible to request specific colors, as each kit includes a range of warm tones achieved primarily from using waste food items like onion skin, tea, coffee, and avocado, or from locally foraged plants that vary with the seasons.
