Positive and Negative Space Felt Appliqué Kit
I'm excited to announce that you can now purchase a kit to accompany my popular Exploring Positive and Negative Space video tutorial! Each kit provides everything you need to get started with your own beautiful, mindful textile project.
Each kit includes:
30cm square of white linen
2 dark grey wool felt rectangles
Dark grey and white embroidery floss
Chenille needle
2 rectangles of black card for composition practise
Heat removable pen
QR code linking to two instructional videos
The class "Exploring Positive and Negative Space" focuses on understanding the relationship between filled and empty spaces in textile design. By learning reverse appliqué techniques, participants explore how to balance different elements within a composition, paying attention to what is removed as much as what remains. This process allows for a deeper engagement with concepts of form, depth, and contrast.
Students will develop their creative voice by practicing intentional design placement, gaining insights into using unconventional shapes harmoniously. Beyond technical skills, the tutorial encourages a mindful, meditative approach to stitching, fostering a deeper connection between the maker and their work.
You will learn the following skills and processes:
Positive and negative space paper collage
Using a view finder
Suitable fabric choices
Balancing shape , form, colour and texture
Felt appliqué
A range of embroidery stitches
Ways to finish your work
