Zero Waste Applique Workshop

  • Framework Knitters Museum Chapel Street Ruddington Nottingham NG11 6HE (map)

Join Rebekah in Ruddington’s historical Framework Knitters Museum to learn her straightforward method for needle turn applique. You'll create a botanical-inspired appliqued square from a selection of Rebekah’s plant dyed fabrics. Perfect for use in patchwork projects or stand-alone pieces like mini quilts or place mats.

Needle turn applique involves attaching fabric shapes to a background fabric by hand, neatly tucking under the raw edges and securing them with hand stitches.

Rebekah will guide you through the entire process, starting from finding inspiration in your surroundings to sketching, cutting, and stitching down your applique design. She will showcase examples from her own work and demonstrate various techniques for achieving both simple and intricate shapes.

You will learn the following processes:

  •  Finding design inspiration

  •  Drawing a simple template

  •  Zero waste approaches to composition

  •  Suitable fabric choices

  •  Needle turn applique

  •  Ideas for how to use your applique square

  •  Knife edge binding

  •  Hand quilting

Leave the workshop with a completed zero waste applique mini quilt and some plant dyed fabrics to continue making at home. All participants will have life time access to Rebekah’s Abstract Botanical Zero Waste Appliqué tutorial.
