The Fabric of Home: Mindful Textile Art with Rebekah Jonhston

Join Nottingham based textile artist Rebekah Jonhston for a ‘mindful’ quilt-making workshop exploring the theme of home through textile art. Learn and practise different slow stitch techniques while making your own mini quilt that reflects your experiences of housing and what ‘home’ means to you. Rebekah’s work emphasizes the therapeutic and calming effects of the mindful act of stitching, resulting in pieces that offer both visual and emotional comfort.

Duration: 2 hours morning or afternoon

Age Group: Suitable for adults

Cost: Free

Objectives:

  • To explore the theme of 'home' through textile art.

  • To reflect on themesy such as safety, family, warmth, shelter, and protection.

  • To consider what ‘home’ means to you.

  • To learn and practice various slow stitch techniques.

Outcome:

  • Small piece of hand stitched textile art

  • Could be used as a bookmark, clothing patch or framed as art.

Materials Provided:

  • ‘Domestic fabrics’- Fabrics squares from bedsheets, clothing etc as well as other fabrics

  • Needles and pins

  • Threads of various colours

  • Embroidery hoops

  • Scissors

  • Participants may bring a special piece of fabric to incorporate into their art and/or their own sewing materials.
